Sciatica Treatment in Franklin, Cool Springs
Safe and effective, non-surgical relief from severe lower back or neck pain
Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, symptoms are felt only on one side of the body. Patients often mistake sciatica for a disorder; however, the term is referring only to the symptoms of a larger problem. Sciatica is commonly caused by a bulging disk, narrowing of the spine, or a bone spur that is compressing part of the nerve. This causes inflammation that can result in numbness or a tingling sensation in the affected leg, and lower back pain. Symptoms of sciatica can worsen after prolonged periods of standing or sitting, making it difficult for many patients who suffer to perform at work comfortably.
When sciatica goes without treatment, the body becomes susceptible to further injury. Persistent numbness in the legs can become a serious problem as it hinders the body’s ability to be aware of the space its occupying. This can affect balance which could lead to falls, ankle sprains, and other accidents.
Chronic pain and/or numbness may also cause the patient to alter their alignment or the way the walk in order to protect the leg from pain, causing further strain on the spine.
Because there are many disorders that cause sciatica, the first step the chiropractor takes in sciatic treatment is to determine the cause of the patient’s sciatica. A thorough review of each patient’s medical history and physical wellness will determine whether or not they are a candidate for treatment.
At Crist Chiropractic, we provide a safe alternative treatment for sciatica pain without the risks associated with surgery, anesthesia, infection, injections, or prescription medication. Sciatica pain can be severe; however, with chiropractic care your pain could reduce dramatically within just a few treatments.
If you are a candidate for therapy, an individual treatment plan is created for your specific needs. Your medical history, x-rays, CT/ MRI scans are carefully reviewed. A typical plan is between 10 to 30 treatments. It is important to complete the treatment plan created for you, even if you start to feel improvement early on. The treatment plan is designed to relieve symptoms but also to support the total healing process.
During the treatment cycles, you may feel some relief of the pressure in the area where your pain exists. During this time, your body is responding by flooding the area with valuable oxygen, blood, nutrients which help promote your body’s natural healing process.Your treatments sessions are typically both comfortable and relaxing. At the end of your session, you’re ready to head home or work. Most patients benefit and enjoy their treatments.

Before decompression therapy I was suffering from extreme lower back pain that was radiating down my left leg. There was also a lot of numbness, but mainly severe pain. It was the most severe pain I have been in in my life. While suffering with this pain for 2 to 3 months, I was receiving spinal injections and physical therapy with little to no relief. It was limiting my everyday activities. It hurt to walk, sit, stand, and it was nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep. Decompression therapy gave me my life back! I am able to get outside and go for a walk or play with the dogs. I would recommend decompression therapy at Crist Chiropractic & Wellness to anyone with lower back pain!

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Crist for the past several years. During that time he has treated both of us for recurring lower back pain. Last fall following an MRI to find out exactly what was causing my pain, I was diagnosed with lumbar stenosis and was possibly facing fusion surgery to alleviate leg and back pain. At my next visit with Dr. Crist I asked him if he could help me not to have surgery. He told me about Decompression Therapy that gently pulls the spine back in place and takes pressure off the vertebrate. We are both in Decompression Therapy and are very pleased with the results. I feel it is well worth the time spent to let the body heal itself and to be able to return to a more active lifestyle and not feel old because it hurts to bend and walk. I am so thankful Dr. Crist added decompression therapy to his wellness program. Try it and feel the difference it can make!
